The Gujar Mal Modi Science Foundation was established in 1974 by Satish Kumar Modi in memory of his father, Rai Bahadur Gujar mal Modi. The Foundation is a symbol of the ideals and values dearly cherished by Mr. Gujar Mal Modi (1902-1976), the founder of the Modi Group of Industries and an architect of modern industrial India, who ceaselessly endeavoured to place India on par with the industrially and scientifically advanced countries of the world.
Mr. G.M. Modi always emphasized that Science and Technology had to play a critical role in the overall growth and development of the country. To commemorate his love for Science and Technology, the Gujar Mal Modi Science Foundation was set up with the aim of promoting research in the various fields of Science and Technology and to help find innovative solutions to the various needs of the country. Currently, the Foundation is in dialogue with several research organizations around the world to form an alliance towards this end.
The Gujar Mal Modi Science Foundation is now focusing on intensive research in field of health, wellness and medicine. The emphasis will be on prevention, treatment and individual prediction of diseases.

Satish Modi started India’s first offshore mutual fund – J.F. India Fund, that is part of J.P. Morgan Chase. The total fund size is USD 626.2 million.
Satish Kumar Modi started India’s first private airline, ModiLuft, in partnership with Lufthansa and is credited with re-launching this airline as Spice Jet, a leading private airline of India.
Recognising his contributions to India’s Textile Industry, he was appointed in 1986 as Chairman of Indian Cotton Mills Federation (ICMF) now known as Confederation of Textile Industry (CITI).
Satish Modi is now developing the town further to create a ‘Dream City’ in Modinagar, that, besides providing all the modern infrastructure and facilities, will also focus on various aspects of art and culture.In June 2023 Satish Modi set up the Modi India Fund in London, the first of its kind in the world. In partnership with Vertical Future, London, Satish Modi is setting up Modi Fresh, hydroponically grown vegetables for the Indian market.In association with Living Solutions, UK, Satish Modi is creating a world class Retirement Home in Modinagar, India, for elders from UK and other parts of the world.Satish Modi has entered into an agreement with the Galien Foundation and Cube Labs to further medical research in India.Beyond business success, Satish Modi has maintained the legacy of his philanthropist parents by supporting a range of charities, educational institutions and the arts.In May 2000 Satish Modi and his wife Abha established the International Institute of Fine Arts to provide quality education to students in the fields of art and creative design. Satish Modi has written a book entitled, ‘In Love with Death’. The aim of this book is to help people overcome their fear of dying, to make them look at death positively, motivating them to live their lives filled with goodness, love and compassion. Besides in English, the book has also been released in the Thai and Mandarin languages. Several filmmakers from around the world have expressed their interest in making films and television serials based on ‘In Love with Death’. Based on messages from his book, ‘In Love with Death’, Satish Modi has created the ‘Inner Happiness Foundation’, to bring inner happiness to people around the globe, encouraging them to appreciate the world in which they live and to make the most of their lives. Inner happiness in individuals will eventually contribute towards universal love, peace and harmony. The Inner Happiness Foundation is partnered with the East-West Philanthropy Forum (EWPF), a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation in Honolulu, USA.EWPF is the part of the East West Centre in USA. In December 2016, Satish Modi was invited by the China Global Philanthropy Institute (CGPI) to deliver the keynote address at the Asia Society in Hong Kong. CGPI receives continuous support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. CGPI invited Satish Modi to visit China in March 2017 for a three-city tour, where he delivered talks on Philanthropy and on the ‘Art of Dying’. CGPI honoured Mr. Modi with the Master of Philanthropy degree.
Satish Modi was invited to be the Keynote Speaker at The Global Scholars Symposium (GSS) held at Rhodes House, at the University of Oxford, from May 11th-13th 2018, where he delivered a stimulating talk and workshop, covering various subjects from his book, ‘In Love with Death’.
On the invitation by the University of Cambridge, Satish Modi delivered a talk on ‘Heritage and Industry – synergies and collaborations’ at the University of Cambridge on the 7th of December 2019.
Satish Modi has received a number of awards and honours, both in India and abroad. He was appointed an ‘Ambassador for Philanthropy’ by the UK’s Founding Ambassador for Philanthropy, Dame Stephanie Shirley, in recognition of his philanthropy in India and role as an advocate to others. He was also presented the World Peace Tartan in Edinburgh in 2012. In November 2015, Satish Modi was honoured with the Tara Award by Venerable Mae Chee Sansanee Sthirasuta, Founder of Sathira-Dhammasathan, Bangkok.
